Accessed via a 35-minute boat ride from Golfito or Puerto Jiménez, Playa Nicuesa is an eco-friendly lodge set on a 165 acre private reserve within the Piedras Blancas National Park. Located in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica near the Osa Peninsula, the park is a biodiverse haven that preserves one of the last remaining sections of rainforest in the country. Known for its rich variety of flora and fauna, the park is home to jaguars, scarlet macaws, and endangered species. The park also boasts pristine beaches, rivers, and waterfalls, making it a hidden gem for nature lovers and eco-tourists.
The lodge has been sensitively constructed from naturally fallen trees and recycled materials and also has its own solar energy. The main building is designed like a large rustic treehouse with a thatched roof.
Meals are served in the open-air restaurant, nestled high in the rainforest canopy with stunning views. Here the emphasis is on local cuisine including fresh fish and tropical fruits. Vegetarian dishes and children’s menus are also available.
There are also separate lounge areas with comfortable sofas and hammocks. There are also beach chairs down by the lagoon.
Each cabin has its own private entrance and hardwood floors, Queen-size canopied beds (or twin beds upon request), ceiling fans and an open-air garden shower. The bathrooms feature eco-friendly toiletries and full-length louvre doors and private verandas afford panoramic views of the surrounding nature.
There is an excellent choice of activities including kayaking, hiking, fishing, stand up paddleboarding and yoga classes and therapeutic massages (some activities are payable locally). Guided tours include treks to the waterfalls, birdwatching, or exploring the garden.
