Hotel Amfiteatar

When this hotel opened it was immediately the talk of the town.

There had been nothing like it before in Pula and now, here was a new three-star, boutique hotel with two huge draws: as the name suggests, it is just two-minute walk from the entrance to Pula’s famous Roman amphitheatre (if you look to the right out of the hotel’s entrance door, there it is, in front of your eyes) and the other – the hotel has one of the most famous, award-winning chefs in Croatia, Deniz Zembo.

Quickly, locals started coming to try this version of local Mediterranean cuisine along with new, edgy, eclectic street food options. Clearly, it was a hit as the locals are still coming.

There’s a cosy indoor restaurant and the spacious, outside terrace is especially popular from May to October (booking advised at weekends from June – September)

Apart from the Amfiteatar (written and spoken the Croatian way), the location is superb, just 10 minutes’ walk to the ferry port, around 5 minutes to the Forum and Giardini in the centre. It’s under 10 minutes’ walk to the train station and just 12 minutes’ drive to the city beach and Pula airport.

Many of the staff have been at the hotel for many years and repeat guests mention how friendly they are. Reception staff can arrange boat trips and city tours.

Something special – on request and with advance notice, cooking classes are available with the hotel’s top chef.

The hotel is open all year and a nice combination is a few days in Split, direct 50-minute flight twice weekly from Pula airport or Trieste in Italy (1 hour 45 drive).
