The Atlantic east coast of Dominica is spectacularly wild. Do not take the eastern coastal road which twists and turns as you travel south from the airport, past Barana Aute and L’escalier Tete-Chien in the Kalinago area because the road peters out at Saint Sauver.. An easier and no less spectacular route will take you through Marigot to the interior and then left turn at Ponte Casse roundabout to reach Rosalie Bay in about one hour in total.
The resort nestles on the banks of the Rosalie River and borders a magnificent black sand beach, a magnet for turtles. Leatherback, Green and Hawksbill turtles all nest and hatch on Rosalie Bay’s protected black sand beach. Leatherbacks hatch between March and June, Hawksbills July and August and Green turtles in September and October. Rosalie Bay has a commitment to sustainable tourism and to connecting guests to the natural world. Since the resort’s conservation programme began, 15,000 hatchlings have been released into the wild.
Unfortunately, though turtles happily swim in the sea off the sandy shore, it is dangerous for humans as strong currents are present!
The resort’s primary source of electricity is solar power, with generators used as a secondary source when necessary. The resort's own natural spring water is purified on-site, using a charcoal filter and UV filtration system.Wastewater is treated through a VertiVert reed filtration system. Within the resort's 28-acre lush nature resort one can observe numerous species of birds, plants and wildlife.
Rosalie Bay has a homely, rustic, colonial feel to it, with a delightful spa overlooking the Rosalie River. All the bungalows have been constructed by hand. A car is recommended for those who want to explore further afield. The nearest restaurant is a 20-minute drive and Roseau, the capital, is an hour’s drive.
Emerald Pool and Victoria waterfalls are a 20-minute drive, Spanny waterfalls and Jaco falls 30 minutes.
It is important to note that 90% of the resort’s buildings were destroyed by hurricane Maria in 2017 and that the road to recovery was uncertain, as the resort also had to face the pandemic. Rosalie Bay re-opened in 2020 and this is the 5th anniversary of a resort that is a pillar of local community support, employment and environmental conservation. 80% of pre-Maria staff were re-hired, ensuring that the local workforce continued to thrive. The resort also remained a key buyer of local produce, seafood and artisan goods, directly supporting farmers, fishermen and craftspeople.
Beach weddings are also a feature of this property.
ACCOMMODATION

All accommodation types are with vaulted ceilings, have ceiling fans, are air conditioned, have a mini safe, a mini fridge and free wifi. The rooms are also equipped with hair dryers and smart TVs (Netflix and Youtube, 25 channel cable). As the hotel is in a high saline area, most windows are locked shut so fans and air conditioning units are necessary in most rooms. Extra standing fans can also be provided.
