Located by the beautiful lake from which it takes its name, the Wilderness Hotel Inari is the ideal setting for nature, breath-taking views and an Aurora sighting. Family owned by the Lappalainen family, one of five Finnish style resorts which form part of the Wilderness Hotels company, the hotel is 316km north of the Arctic Circle and 201km south from the Arctic Ocean.
The heart of the hotel is the main building where you will find reception, a bar and lounge area with fireplace and a restaurant which overlooks Lake Inari. Around the grounds various buildings house a variety of guest accommodation, with a décor that focuses on the use of wood and large windows. A stay here provides guests with the sensation of being out in the wilderness but with the modern comforts to which we have become accustomed.
Autumn sees the start of ‘Revontulet’ - Finnish for the Northern Lights, which is considered the most active season and when you have a better chance of seeing a double Aurora, created when the lights reflect above a lake. The season also brings incredible colours to Inari - the green of the trees changes to yellow and orange whilst the tundra is covered in shades of red.
Inari village is 4km away (c.40-minute walk) and has a small Sámi culture and history museum, Sámi Parliament as well as a few restaurants, pubs and souvenir shops.
