Assos is one of very few waterside villages that hasn't been extensively refurbished. That's what gives it a special charm. It's a great place to walk around and take in the original buildings' architecture, still standing there in all their ruined glory, as they reveal snippets of years gone by with exposed weathered timbers and tiles. Along with Fiscardo it is about the only place on the island with any surviving Venetian architecture. It is still very much a traditional village and a charming one at that.
