Whether a first-time visitor or a returning guests, these exciting events will offer an immersive insight into the heritage and colours that cement the people, livelihoods and traditions on Kefalonia.
EASTER
Kefalonia celebrates Orthodox Easter with local processions, marching bands, fireworks and more. There are huge feasts with whole roast lambs and other traditional specialties. For the main celebrations head to the capital, Argostoli.

Omala, Fragata - 29 July
This Kefalonian Feast was organised for the first time in 1996 with the aim of promoting Kefalonian Gastronomy. Visitors have the opportunity to taste the traditional meat pie and other Kefalonian recipes. Live orchestra, traditional dance groups surround the nice evening.
Omala, Valsamata Robola Wine Festival - 12 and 13 August
Plenty of complimentary Robola wine from the Robolas Kefalonia Cooperative, they will dance and the Feast will continue until the first morning hours.
Saint Gerasimos Evening Event - 15 August
This religious ceremony celebrates the Name Day of the island's Patron Saint and takes place in Agios Gerasimos. This is the biggest celebration of the year for Kefalonians. Pilgrims from all over Greece travel to St. Gerasimos Monastery to receive a blessing from the Saint, by kissing the feet of his mummified remains. There is also a lively street market and Greek food for sale.
Saint Gerasimos Day Parade - 16 August
During the parade (in Saint Gersimos), the body of Saint Gerasimos is taken along the street connecting the Saint Gerasimos Convent and the Monastery. The Greek people believe that if they let his body pass over them they will be cured of all illnesses. The street market is also open throughout the day.
Omala, Fragata Robola Wine Festival - 19 and 20 Aug
The first robola festival was in 1978 and its purpose was the promotion of the local Rombola grape variety. From in 1978 until today the festival of Robola in Fragata is organised without fail the first weekend after the Fifteenth of August. The visitor has the opportunity to try local dishes, plenty of wine (free), to get to know the local traditional dances from his bands and have genuine Kefalonian fun.
Varcarola at De Bosset Bridge - 21 August
The Municipality of Argostoli invites you to the Argostoli Bridge for an Enchanting Varcarola. On the decorated wooden boat "Queen Bee 2", there will be singing from the Men's Choir of the Municipality of Argostoli with traditional Ionian songs.
