Uto is one of the largest islands in Stockholm’s southern archipelago, and its ambience and scenery could be no further from that of the capital. It is an landscape of small hamlets, shingle beaches, rocky promontories, woodland and farmland. This island is a natural playground and also the summer destination of choice for many Stockholmers. You can kayak, walk, cycle and swim here.
In spring and autumn, Uto is calm and uncrowded yet even in the height of summer, using the allemansratten (right to roam), you can find a picturesque spot all of your own.
Owner-managed by Anders Malm and his team, Uto Värdshus is situated 450m from Gruvbyn harbour. At the heart of the guesthouse is a courtyard, bar, nightclub and panoramic restaurant where guests meet and unwind. The cabins are fully equipped and are located apart from the communal areas allowing guests to be as independent as they desire.

- Uto is connected to the neighbouring island of Ålo by a bridge, and Alo in turn is connected to the mainland - Nynäshamn by boat. It is possible to explore Ålo on a day’s cycle from Uto
- A choice of excursions including guided tours of the island by bus and boat, kayak excursions, wildlife safaris and fishing tours can be arranged locally.
- Uto can be reached from Stockholm, during the height of summer, using a direct ferry. Before mid-June and after mid-August, guests are required to take the train and bus to Arsta and then a ferry across to the island.

Stretching 270 km across 20 islands, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT) offers a one-of-a-kind hiking experience. Each section has its own character and is easily accessible by the archipelago’s public ferry network.
The SAT Hiking Passport, a physical stamp-collecting adventure that encourages both international and local visitors to discover the archipelago’s unique islands and landscapes. Hikers can collect stamps at more than 100 checkpoints across 10 trail stages, earn badges, and unlock exclusive rewards along the way. One such checkpoint is the Uto Vardshus.
