This small village resort which has a fabulous cluster of fourteen cottages on Pico Island is ideal for families and couples alike. Located on the north coast of the island, the cottages have superb views towards São Jorge island and are set in a unique landscape with an abundance of cultural heritage, where calm and tranquillity predominates.
Over the centuries this parish was the main naval shipyard of the Azores. Today there is a regional handicraft school, natural swimming pools at Portinho and Caisinho and a picnic area in Furada. The grounds were chosen for their natural beauty, flora and the existence of several ruins. The resort is crossed by a natural rural trail that belongs to the listed walking trails of the Island.
The conservation of nature, environmental quality and the safeguarding of the historical-cultural heritage and local identity is key here. Each cottage is equipped with photovoltaic panels (solar power) and the heating is achieved through pellet stoves (burns compressed wood or biomass pellets). The cooling is done through natural ventilation and the ancient water-capture tanks are used to water the gardens. Drinking water is supplied from local reservoirs filtered by active coal.
