The picturesque village of Metsovo is located in the Pindus Mountains between the city of Ioannina to the west and historical Meteora to the east.

A charming destination year-round, Metsovo has immense appeal for those wishing to discover the real Greece and interested to learn more about the traditions, culture and gastronomy of the Epirus region. Investment in tourism here has empowered residents and boosted pride in their way of life, local stories, songs, handicraft and language (Vlach - a regional dialect with Balkan roots). It is a good place to buy a traditional souvenir - mountain herbs, honey, high quality cheeses and Katogi red wine. 

Metsovo has another attraction and that is of its natural backdrop, standing proudly between the imposing mountains and the flowing rivers. The air is fresh and the views stretch for miles around. In the winter alpine skiing is available. In the spring and summer wildflowers, glistening lakes, powerful waterfalls and lush forests take centre stage. Hiking trails are available in abundance including the 40km Ursa trail.

Getting There

Getting to Metsovo

  • Daily flights connect the UK with Thessaloniki, Greece's second city. From Thessaloniki it is a 2 hours 40 minutes' drive to Metsovo. Alternative flights are available to Preveza, with a 2 hour transfer time
  • We recommend visiting Metsovo as part of a fly-drive holiday of the Epirus region or on a longer tour of Central Greece. Popular combinations include Metsovo with Parga, Sivota, Lefkas or Meganissi
