Holidays to Ammouliani

Transfer time 2½ hrs from Thessaloniki
(not including any waiting time for the ferry)

A 40 minute drive to the south of our small resort village Olymbiada, followed by a 15 minute ferryboat ride (cost 2.50 euro last year - ferries run every few hours, more frequently in high season) brings you to Ammouliani, Halkidiki's only island. Ammouliani measures just 4.5 sq kms. And has one village (pop 542 at the last count).

Built on a small hill above the port, the village is one of the friendliest you could come across and should provide all you need for your stay. It has four taverna restaurants, a couple of pizzerias and cafebars, a number of surprisingly well stocked mini-markets, and even an ATM.

But the jewel in Ammouliani's crown is its string of wonderful sandy beaches shelving gently into calm sheltered aquamarine waters.  A car is not necessary as the island is so small and the beaches are all walkable (max. 3½-4 kms from the village) - most have sun beds and a taverna. However you can also reach the beaches by minibus, water taxi (seasonal) or hired motor boat.

Of course Ammouliani is far from being a secret to the Greeks and the island receives plenty of visitors at weekends and in season.

One excursion not to be missed - is the spectacular cruise along the western flank of Mount Athos to view the world-renowned monasteries (a UNESCO World Heritage site) from the sea. These depart daily from Ammouliani and cost c 25 euro per person. You may also use this ferry to visit the interesting and lively small town of Ouranoupolis a few kms. down the coast just before the Athos border.

Please note: Ammouliani has a relatively short season and is very quiet for most of May and from 20 September onwards with not all tavernas or beach facilities operating.

Transfers

Transfer to Ammouliani

Transfer to Tripiti port c 2 hours by taxi, minibus or coach. Short ferry crossing (15 mins.) to Ammouliani Island where you will be met and taken to your accommodation (5-10 mins. on foot - your luggage will be transferred separately). Please note as we cannot pre-purchase ferry tickets on this route the ferry ticket is not included and to be purchased on board (3 euros per person one way). On your return the reverse applies. There will probably be a short wait for the ferry on arrival but they run quite frequently in the summer months
