Holidays to Koufonissi

Koufonissi is actually 2 islands, Pano (Upper) and Kato (Lower). Both are tiny - Kato is uninhabited, Pano measures only 3.5 sq kms and has just the one village.

Pano Koufonissi has seen a recent surge of popularity thanks to a string of stunning white sand beaches that shelve into a dazzlingly turquoise sea. Coupled with improved ferry schedules and its proximity to Naxos this means that the island attracts far more high season visitors for its size than it should do and the beaches do get crowded. So we would recommend travelling out of season if possible.

There is but a single, white-walled village on a low, rising hill above the tiny harbour. It has a wide choice of restaurants, tavernas, cafes and small shops, many of which can be found in the pretty pedestrianised main street. There is a fine town beach, and 4 more excellent beaches within walking distance (45 minutes maximum to Pori beach, the furthest). A handy beach hopper boat service operates in season as well as a beach bus - otherwise walking is the only way to get around. Boat trips are possible to nearby Kato Koufonissi.
