Holidays to Paros

Overview

Introduction

Paros, a short hop to the west of Naxos, is smaller and less dramatic, but does get busy in season. The beaches are excellent, and it is probably the best island of all from which to do a little island hopping – every ferry in the Aegean seems to dock at one time or another!

A gentle landscape hides windmills and sparkling white villages. The pretty resort village of Naoussa in the north is (after the capital Parikia) the most popular place to stay on the island and, although busy in the summer months, still retains some of its fishing village atmosphere around the harbour area. There is a good selection of beaches to choose from, including famous Kolymbithres, some best reached by boat.

To the south of Naoussa, between the villages of Piso Livadi and Drios, Paros’ east coast is home to a string of the island's best beaches, nearfly all of golden sand. Chryssi Akti is the longest and known for its windsurfing.

The small village of Drios is a quieter alternative to Naoussa. It has some half-dozen tavernas either above the sea or inland, a good local supermarket and a shingle beach, the whole crowned by a large handsome church at the top of the village. A good bus service runs to Parikia in one direction and Naoussa in the other, as well as to two of Paros' prettiest inland villages in Lefkes and Marpissa. A coastal path brings you to Chrissi Akti and then all the way to Naoussa via beaches and sandy coves.

The satellite island of Antiparos, just a 10 minute ferry hop from the west coast of Paros, can feel like a refuge. Antiparos has most attractive little port with a sophisticated, counter-cultural vibe. Life revolves around its elegant waterfront and main street, beneath a canopy of flaming bougainvillea.

The town has beaches of its own, but they get better as you go south, the pick being Soros which has a couple of tavernas. The island is distinguished by a spectacular set of hilltop caves more than 100 metres deep, with a stunning array of huge stalagmites and stalactites.

It is easy to pop across to Paros for the day, as ferries are frequent and cheap. A trip to the nearby island of Despotiko is a highlight: heavily populated in ancient times due to its strategic maritime position, it is now uninhabited, leaving behind the ruins of its Hellenistic and Roman past. Coupled with its empty beaches and striking sea-caves, the deserted island seems to have been created from the romantic imagination. 

Getting There

Fly to Mykonos or Santorini, transfer to the port, ferry to the island (included), onward transfer to your accommodation (20-30 mins). On the return the reverse applies (alternatively fly via Athens with onward domestic flight or ferry).

On Paros we have appointed local agents who arrange your transfers, can give information, book cars and excursions, and can be contacted if required. However, it is important to state that we do not employ our own representatives, nor are transfers escorted, so our holidays here are recommended for the more independent traveller.

Ferries

Please bear in mind that travel plans involving ferries can be disrupted at short notice due to the vagaries of ferry timetables, high winds etc. Although rare, should this occur we will rebook your hotels and transfers accordingly.

Multi-Centre Options

Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos can all be combined – the minimum stay on each is 3 nights. For transfer reasons the island from which you are flying home from should be booked as your last centre.

Returning to Paros, the tour continues inland to Lefkes, a hillside village known for its timeless charm, pine forests, and soft mountain air. Sunday, Monday & Wednesday excursions. Departure from Naoussa port at 09:30 and returns to port at 18:15. Return transfers from hotel to the port are free of charge. Guests staying in hotels in Naoussa will need to make their own way to the port.

Discover the amazing Koufonisia. Our cruise begins at 09.45 from Piso Livadi Port. Until there, we can transfer you safely and comfortably with our buses by booking the transfer services of our agency.
First stop is the picturesque Agios Sostis on the south of Naxos to admire the small beautiful church that literally decorates this bay. It was built by fishermen who found shelter there from the storm.
Our second stop will be in the south of Kato Koufonissi to admire the impressive caves and then the beautiful Glaronisi. The crystal clear waters and beauty will amaze you and fill your camera with unique photos. A wonderful experience you will never forget.
Then we will enjoy the barbecue which is prepared for us with love from the captain on the south side of Kato Koufonisi. Later on we will go around the harbour by boat and stop to enjoy swimming on the north side of the island before sailing back to Paros. Return to the port of Piso Livadi at 19.30. From there we return you to your accommodation with comfort in our luxurious buses.
This itinerary is tentative since the captain will choose the best spots for each cruise according to weather conditions so you can spend unique moments on board.
