Vatnahalsen Hotel

Vatnahalsen Hotel is a mountain lodge style hotel, located along the Flåm Railway line between Flåm and Myrdal in western Norway.

A small family-run hotel, the Aksnes family have been running the hotel for more than 25 years and have created a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Vatnahalsen has 40 rooms, including 7 single rooms, with a total of 75 beds in the main building. These are bright and pleasant rooms with views of the surrounding nature. Some of the double rooms have space for an extra bed, and between June and September there are extra rooms in the annex, which is located approximately 150 metres from the hotel. The annex was built around 1880 and originally served as construction barracks during the construction of the Bergen Railway.

Whether you want to relax with a good book or enjoy the spectacular views, you can do this in the cozy surroundings of the fireplace lounge, which has several seating areas and a large fireplace. After a day hiking or taking part in one of the many activities, such as cycling or ziplining, take some time out to enjoy a coffee and waffles or have a drink in the bar. The hotel also has a sauna where you can relax and nourish your body and soul after a day in nature.

At Vatnahalsen the food and drink reflect the surrounding nature and history - ‘The Taste of Skarvheimen’. There are many local food producers in the region, and the hotel has a close collaboration with many of them, sourcing organic vegetables from Aurland, and local pork from Haugen Gardsmat in Flåm. All meals are served in the restaurant which has large windows that provide wonderful views.

The cultural heritage runs deep in this area, which is expressed in cultural landscapes between mountains and fjords. Following old routes, you will get a greater understanding of what life in the area was like in days gone by – and with its unique location, Vatnahalsen is a natural starting point for exploration of the surrounding area.
