At The Outpost, your hosts Thomas and Karin represent the epitome of what we look for in a local partner. Their hospitality is warm, sincere and timeless - personal yet unobtrusive; a balance that creates an immediate sense of comfort and belonging.
The house itself plays a meaningful role in that feeling. Once the village post office, it served as a central meeting point for the community of Mårdsel for many years before being thoughtfully renovated. Thomas and Karin have kept that spirit of gathering alive, creating an environment that brings people together and encourages easy conversation. The property is booked exclusively for your party, giving you complete privacy to enjoy the space. You can relax in the comfortable lounge, enjoy the terrace with its outdoor hot tub, or come together in the spacious kitchen and dining room where generous family-style meals are shared.
The interior has been designed for everyday comfort, with practical spaces where you can read, relax, or simply pause between activities. The bedrooms are peaceful and light, supporting the relaxed rhythm that characterises life at The Outpost.
Outside the home, Thomas - who grew up in the area and works as a local guide - leads private excursions for you, sharing insight into the landscape, local traditions and the village’s ongoing stories. The surrounding terrain, with its wide expanses of frozen wetlands, offers excellent conditions for a range of winter activities. You can explore on snowshoes, Nordic skis, or kick-sleds, all provided at the property, or venture farther by husky-sled or snowmobile. It is even possible to reach the Arctic Circle monument by snowmobile on a full-day tour.
Thomas and Karin tailor every aspect of your stay to your interests (with our support), from private excursions to family-style meals and time spent relaxing in the house. The experience is designed to feel personal, flexible and genuinely cared for. It is a place where you may arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
