The STF Abisko Turiststation is situated in the heart of the Abisko National Park, 100km to the west of Kiruna. This is the ‘land of the northern lights’, the Sami people, moose, mountain fox, polar hare, wolverine and lynx. In fact, the microclimate surrounding Abisko provides the ultimate conditions for a sighting of the spectacular Aurora Borealis and the village has been highlighted by Lonely Planet as the best place in the world to see this natural phenomenon. Of course it is not only the northern lights that can be experienced in Abisko. The National Park is also a winter playground with snow shoe tours, ice fishing, cross country skiing and dog-sled tours on offer. Downhill skiing is available from February at nearby Mount Nuoja and Björkliden (9km).
A simple yet homely and friendly property, the STF Abisko Turiststation is ideal for those wishing to get away from artificial light pollution and to enjoy the natural wilderness. Situated only 300m from Abisko train station and a short walk from the Aurora Sky Station, the property is also an ideal choice for a twin-centre holiday with Luleå, Kiruna or the ICEHOTEL.
