Lapland Guesthouse, in the small community of Kangos, 150km above the Arctic Circle and surrounded by a vast open wilderness of lakes and forests, ticks everything we - at Sunvil - look for in a partner. Owner-managed by hosts Johan and Eva, the warmth of welcome here packs a punch and the roaring fires, cozy chairs and intricate details place you immediately at ease. "Mi casa et su casa" is the vibe and guests are encouraged to use the spacious public areas to come together, or to enjoy quiet time alone, as desired.
The guesthouse is a labour of love with the collection of buildings and rooms restored to their former beauty, enhanced or made by Johan's own hands. The artistry of the couple and their sons is apparent throughout, with bespoke furnishings, handicrafts, pieces of modern art standing side-by-side, curated by those with a talented eye. Each room has been individually decorated, telling stories about the people and wildlife that call the region their home.
During the winter months, activities depart directly from the doorstep and are lead by Johan and his small team. The trips are discussed in advanced and are tailored to the needs and desires of those participating. There is an element of flexibility and a desire of the team, for you to learn and feel enriched, from the experiences on offer. Choose from snowmobile, dog-sledding (a separate provider in the village), reindeer (separate provider), aurora tours, ice driving, snow-shoeing and more.
On each visit the Lapland Guesthouse grows in our favour. We cannot recommend this property highlighly enough for those looking for an authentic and personable holiday in the land of the northern lights.
