Sweden’s second city

For the past few years, Gothenburg has been gaining an international reputation for its cool cafés, laid-back parks and cuisine. But despite its newfound popularity, it retains a friendly, small-town feel, and with a little effort it’s easy to find placesaway from the tourist trail.

Haga

A tour of Gothenburg should commence at the historic 17th century district of Haga, where visitors and locals come to wander the maze of cobbled streets, and enjoy the architecture, shopping opportunities and lively coffee shop scene.

Attractions

Gothenburg boasts attractions to suit all interests and ages. Why not spend the day visiting Gothenburg’s Art museum, National History Museum, Museum of World Cultures, the Liseberg amusement park - Sweden’s premier tourist attraction, or shopping in Sweden’s leading indoor shopping centre? Alternatively, escape the bustle of the city and visit the beautiful manor house, gardens and restaurant of Gunnebo.

Christmas celebrations

From 14 November the Liseberg Amusement Park hosts Scandinavia’s largest Christmas Market. Decorated with nearly five million glimmering lights and 700 Christmas trees, a festive atmosphere and cheer is all around.

Cycling

West Sweden is the perfect place for pedalling. In Gothenburg, you can enjoy the city at your own pace on over 370 miles of cycling routes. The more ambitious may want to venture farther afield – with quiet roads, stunning scenery and lungfuls of sea air, the rides along the coast are the ultimate in cycling experiences.

Södra Skärgården

To the south of Gothenburg is an archipelago of 13 islands. Here there are broad horizons and active fi shing communities, places to bathe, village streets and leafy woodlands interspersed between the sea’s blue inlets. During the summer months a variety of boat excursions depart Gothenburg for the archipelago.
