Introducing the Art Suite designs for ICEHOTEL 33 in Swedish Lapland

The wait is over

The first snow has fallen in Jukkasjärvi and the planning and construction of this year's winter hotel are in full swing. Out of a total of 135 applicants from 23 different countries, 24 artists from 15 countries have now been selected to create ICEHOTEL 33.

During the spring when Icehotel 32 melted and reunited with Torne River, the hotel with its Creative Director, Luca Roncoroni, selected the 24 artists who will create the art in this year´s winter hotel.

At the end of November, the artists will gather at ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi and together with the production and construction crew, they will build a 2,890 (sqm) seasonal hotel consisting of 12 art suites, 24 ice rooms, and a ceremonial hall.

This year ICEHOTEL 33 will be amazing for many reasons! Not only because artists from all over the world will create unique experiences in ice and snow, but also because the ICEHOTEL were finally able to hold an open international competition again after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic.

It was a challenge to pick only 12 concepts out of so many great ideas, and everyone is excited to welcome the artists in Jukkasjärvi at the end of November. ICEHOTEL 33 will truly be a unique experience, says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director at Icehotel.

This year two of the artists originate from France, Luc Voisin, and Mathieu Brison. Luc and Mathieu have designed the art suite “Bauh-Ice”. Luc Voisin is a French landscape and interior designer, located in Lyon, France. 

Mathieu Brison has many facets: urban planning, architecture, design, expert architect for a television program, etc. In parallel with his work, he has been an art duo with Luc in the design and production of ephemeral installations of contemporary art as part of international festivals, but also for ICEHOTEL since 2013.

• 12 Art Suites with unique art and design
• 24 Ice Rooms designed by Icehotel
• The Ceremony Hall is 100 sqm and has approx. 40 seating places
• The main hall has 40 ice columns
• The iconic ice chandelier is made of 200 handmade crystals

ICEHOTEL 33 will open its doors on the 16th December and the art will be displayed to the world for the very first time.

The ICEHOTEL is a bucket list staple for every Arctic adventure. How this Swedish landmark is creatively redesigned and reborn each winter season is truly a treat to the senses. But the real experience lies in staying a night here. Accommodation in the seasonal winter hotel ranges from standard ice rooms to more elegant art suites. Ice rooms are furnished with decor and beds made of ice. Art suites, on the other hand, offer an even more special experience – staying in a room uniquely designed by commissioned artists from all over the world. By its nature, each suite is ephemeral and has never previously been created.
