Every November, an art installation takes shape on the shores of the River Torne in the heart of Swedish Lapland. It is a project like no other, and on a scale like no other, which brings together designers and sculptors from all over the world. The result is the ICEHOTEL, a destination in its own right and a truly unforgettable experience.
Made wholly from ice and snow, this collective vision is like the river from which it derives. Always evolving! Each year, the ICEHOTEL is constructed using natural material, unique designs and new, boundary-breaking, innovative techniques.
We can guarantee that – like us – you will be left amazed at the level of craftsmanship, attention to detail and artistic flare required to build this formidable property. It is this memory, along with the picture of a pristine snow-covered landscape, which will remain with you long after your stay.
Whether you are an aurora hunter, activity enthusiast, an art lover, looking to celebrate a special occasion or just someone who has dreamed of sleeping in subzero conditions under the dark Arctic skies, the ICEHOTEL is an idyllic winter break.
The 2016 ICEHOTEL will open its doors on 11 December 2015 for its 26th year and we are sure that, yet again, this formidable feat of engineering and artistry will wow guests and visitors alike.
OUR FAVOURITE ART SUITES FROM 2015
In addition to the ICEBAR and ice chapel, the ICEHOTEL offers five categories of cold accommodation: Snow Room; Ice Room; Northern Lights Suite; Art Suite and Deluxe Suite.
All rooms offer the opportunity to sleep in subzero temperatures (-5°C to -8°C) but it is the Art Suites and Deluxe Suites that visitors will remember long after they return to the UK. These rooms are individually designed by artists, film directors, architects, product designers and visual anthropologists from around the world. We have witnessed Art Suites which have had polar bears peering over the bed; beds placed in ice sculpted cars and boats and rooms with ice sculpted rockets and astronauts.
To whet your appetite for a visit, we have highlighted some of our favourite Art Suites from the 25th ICEHOTEL (2015). We cannot wait until December so that we can visit again!
