Find the real Sweden with Sunvil

What do we mean by the Swedish way of life? Well, it is about enjoying life; spending quality time with family and friends; being active and being outdoors; eating local and seasonal produce – maybe even foraging for mushrooms and berries or fishing in a nearby lake or along the coast; enjoying nature and caring about the environment.

How do you experience this on a holiday? You don’t even need to try. It encapsulates everything and everyone you encounter.

As you walk around the capital city of Stockholm you will find the locals sitting with friends in a café or in the park, enjoying the glorious sunshine. You will notice the queues of people buying seasonal and local produce from one of the city's food markets for lunch – no pre-packed sandwiches or salads for Stockholmers, instead they enjoy freshly-made open rye bread sandwiches topped with crayfish and mayonnaise. In the summer, they often take an archipelago cruise, stopping off at one of the many small islands to sunbathe and swim.

Our Stockholm and her archipelago holiday was introduced in 2015 and has been a popular choice for Sunvil clients. The itinerary combines a stay in the capital with a stay on the island of Uto.

Around Stockholm, is a land of vast lakes and forests in which moose freely roam. Using the allemansratten (everyman's right to roam), it is possible for you to explore the open countryside independently and, in the Autumn, pick wild mushrooms and berries.

The West Coast of Sweden was where it all started for Sunvil back in 2007. We visited the region and fell in love with the country. From the excellent boutique shops and vibrancy of Gothenburg to the archipelago of islands which stretches northwards to the Norwegian border and the warm hospitality shown by the Swedes, it is the perfect destination for a touring holiday.

Try our 7-night archipelago and culinerary tour of Gothenburg and West Sweden. The holiday combines a stay in Gothenburg with a stay at the delightful, owner-managed Villa Sjotorp on the West Coast. The itinerary can be as relaxed or as active as you desire, and allows for independent exploration of the Bohuslan Coastline and its attractions.

A popular itinerary with Sunvil clients is our 5-night Gothenburg and her archipelago holiday. This short break allows you to mingle with the locals both in the city and the southern archipelago.

The southernmost county of Skane, is a region of Sweden that is full of surprises. From the 400km of sandy shores, to the vibrant fishing communities, the megalithic monument of Ales Stenar, the medieval town of Ystad and the city of Malmo there are contrasts to discover at every turn. Travel to Skane in Spring and marvel at the golden landscape produced by the latest rapeseed crop; in Summer the days will be long and warm; in Autumn it is the time of the harvest and in Winter there are traditional Christmas Markets galore.

Explore Malmo, the Kullaberg Peninsula and the rural charm of southern Skane on our 7-night fly-drive itinerary 'The unspoiled countryside of Skane'.

If time is short, our 4-night stay in Malmo provides ample time to visit Sweden's third largest city, the Danish capital of Copenhagen and the medieval town of Ystad in southern Skane.

Swedish Lapland stretches from the Norwegian border in the west to the Finnish border in the east. It is a land of mountains, extensive wilderness areas, dense forests, shimmering lakes and small communities. It is also home to the ICEHOTEL and the Tree Hotel, two unique properties. On our many travels we have also found a number of family-run properties which we feel offer the highest standard of service and an authentic experience.

Stay at Mattarahkka Lodge in Kiruna; Pine Tree Lodge in Kangos; Arrenjarka Mountain Lodge in Arrenjarka;  and at Brandon Lodge near Lulea and gain an insight into these incredible destinations.
