Thirty years ago Yngve Bergqvist had a dream; a dream that saw him resign from his mining career and spearhead the creation of a hotel made wholly of ice and snow in the heart of Swedish Lapland. Today, the ICEHOTEL is famous all over the world and offers guests the chance to sleep in sub-zero temperatures year-round. A unique hotel with a fascinating story. Notes from the field - Swedish Lapland in June

My first visit to Swedish Lapland during the Midsummer far exceeded any, if not all of my expectations. I had been told by a few colleagues how beautiful Sweden is and they were right. Travelling from Lulea to Kiruna via Harads, Haparanda, Tornedalen and Jukkasjarvi, I witnessed spectacular landscapes - the tallest trees, crystal clear rivers and lakes, lush green vegetation, jagged mountains and quiet roads.

Veneto is the northeastern region of Italy stretching from the Dolomite Mountains to the Adriatic Sea. Venice, its regional capital, is famed for its canals, Gothic architecture and Carnival celebrations. Veneto was part of the powerful Venetian Republic for more than 1,000 years, between the 7th and 18th centuries. Near alpine Lake Garda, medieval Verona is known as the setting of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet." In June, our colleague Alison spent two weeks exploring the region's cities, heritage sites and a variety of cultural experiences.

I just had to write to say, what a fabulous holiday I experienced travelling with you to Ikaria on the 4th of July this year. Absolutely everything, from the booking (organised so helpfully and efficiently by Jordan in your Greece team) to accommodation and transfers were outstanding . So thoughtful, clearly and carefully arranged, that I wanted to express this and my thanks personally to you and to all your amazing staff.
