No-deal warning: don’t go on holiday after March 29 2019 | Sunvil's response

"As an addendum to my recent blog, the European Commission has reaffirmed today (19 December 2018) that all flights between the UK and the EU will continue as normal.  This news is in stark contrast to the misleading article on the Sunday Times front page of the 16th December 2018, advising the public not to book a holiday to any EU destination to travel after the 29th March 2019."

Many of you will have read the article written in today’s Sunday Times by the Deputy Political Editor entitled “No-deal warning: don’t go on holiday after March 29." The article referred to the Government discussing contingency plans designed to advise people not to book holidays after 29th March 2019. This is contrary to all advice and assurances given to the industry by Government over the last six months.

ABTA issued the following statement early today in response to the allegations made in the article: “Number 10 has said that the content of the report in the Sunday Times is categorically untrue. The European Commission has said that even in a no-deal scenario, flights will still operate between the UK and EU, and a visa is not required. ABTA is providing holidaymakers and travellers with advice about Brexit and travel, including on pet passports and driving licences.” The latest Brexit advice for travellers, issued by ABTA, can be found in this link. 

The Government has also stated that the content of the article is categorically untrue as detailed in the BBC's article "Ministers deny planning no-Brexit holiday warnings".

Noel is Sunvil’s Chairman. Born in Cyprus in 1948, he joined John der Parthog at Sunvil in 1973. Before that and following university, he spent 3 years as a trainee buyer at C&A Modes and then worked for a large Cypriot builder and property developer for whom he set up a London Office buying electrical components for the Middle East and importing lemons from orchards in Cyprus. He still researches new destinations for Sunvil and is heavily involved in matters relating to the travel industry. He is a previous chairman of ABTA, a long standing director and previous chairman of The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and former chairman of The Travel Foundation - the travel industry’s sustainability charity.
