The attractions of Chrani and surrounding Areas

The Peloponnese region uses the caption ‘Mythical Peloponnese’ to describe the region. It was here that modern European culture was born. This is where it all started.

The Messinia region is to the north west of the Peloponnese peninsula and is green and fertile, unlike the harsher, craggier landscapes of the Mani further south.

There is so much antiquity and culture within a short drive of all our accommodation in the Messinia region. All the places of interest listed below are within a two, to two and a half hour drive of the Chrani Village area where most of our accommodation is located.

Finikounda. Distance 21.3km. Drive time: 32 minutes.
Pretty seaside town blessed with superb beaches.

Koroni. Distance: 16.4km. Drive time: 24 minutes.
Vibrant, small sea-side town set below an impressive Venetian Castle.

Methoni. Distance: 31km. Drive time: 44 minutes.
Small town and spectacular Venetian castle surrounded by the sea.

Pretty small town and harbour guarded by 15th C Venetian fortress.

Capital of the region and interesting bustling seaside town.

The best preserved Mycenaean Greek Palace.

Ancient Messini. Distance: 46km. Drive time: 57 minutes.
4th century BC well preserved, spectacular, monumental site.

Voidokilia Beach. Distance: 51.2km. Drive time: 1 hour 4 minutes.
Horseshoe-shaped and sandy. One of the best in Greece.

Kardamili. Distance: 71.5km. Drive time: 1 hour 35 minutes.

Amazing sea caves accessible only by boat.

Pyrgos. Distance: Drive time: 1 hour 55 minutes.
The attractive capital of the Northern Peloponnese Elis Region.

Ancient Nemea. Distance: 155km Drive time: 1 hour 45 minutes.
Site of Panhellenic Games and modern revival.

Nafplion. Distance: 165km. Drive time: 2 hours 3 minutes.
Historic seaside town capped by a fortress and the old capital.

Corinth Canal. Distance: 183km. Drive time: 2 hours 4 minutes.
4 miles long, 70ft wide and 19th century engineering marvel.

Mycenae. Distance: 158km. Drive time: 1 hour 54 minutes.
Home of the warrior king Agamemnon of Trojan War legend.
