Day 1 - Day of arrival

On arrival at Corfu airport, collect your hire car and self-transfer to the hamlet of Kalami on Corfu’s north coast. The drive is approximately 1 hour but, of course, with a car you can stop en route to enjoy the scenery or for a frappe. The road from Corfu Town predominantly follows the coastline passing through the resorts of Ipsos, Barbati and Nissaki. So you could even take a dip on yourway if you choose.

Day 2 - Day at leisure in Kalami

This quaint, seaside hamlet was home to Lawrence Durrell and his family for 18 months and has escaped the development of mass tourism. Life here is sleepy, calm and very pleasant. Locals acknowledge visitors in the street, and in the tavernas and cafes overlooking the bay, you are welcomed as friends. Take a swim in the Ionian or take a stroll along the coastal road to Kouloura (20 minutes) where there is a seafront taverna specialising in seafood and ice cream, and a shingle beach sheltered by trees.

Day 3 - Day at leisure

North of Kalami, along the coastline, is Kassiopi, a historical village backed by Mount Pantokrator and bordered by the remains of a Byzantine fortress. Whilst more developed than Kalami traditions remain; it is still possible, for example, to see the local fishermen delivering their catch on the harbourfront and to enjoy the fruits of their labour in the tavernas. Take the day to visit Kassiopi and the villages of north-east Corfu - including Acharavi and its folk museum - returning to Kalami using the mountain roads for a different perspective of the island and many wonderful panoramas. In the shadows of the mountain you’ll also find walking trails, great tavernas and local churches.

Day 4 - Day at leisure

Day at leisure. Why not drive south to Corfu Town and explore the Venetian capital of the island. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historical centre of Corfu Town is a warren of winding lanes adorned with local boutiques, restaurants and souvenir shops. It is easy to while-away the hours here watching people come and go. The town also has a number of museums and attractions worthy of a visit including the Achillion Palace and the Old Fort. We would also recommend a visit to the Mon Repos estate, 2km south of Corfu Town. This site was the location of the ancient settlement of Palaeopolis and more recently home to a neo-classical villa, the birthplace of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Day 5 - Day at leisure

The hamlet of Agni, neighbouring Kalami, is considered by many to be the most picturesque harbour on Corfu and can be reached in a 30-minute walk over the headland (relatively difficult). Alternatively, Agni can be reached by a short drive or by boat (weather and dates allowing). So, why not head to Agni for a bathe or for lunch/dinner in one of the handful of restaurants which line the waterfront?

Day 6 - Day at leisure

Free time to venture further afield. Corfu is a diverse island with much to offer even the most seasoned of travellers. You could travel to the south where you will find mile-upon- mile of sandy shores, visit the nature reserve at Lake Korisson or head inland to the historical and atmospheric village of Mount Pankator, the decision is yours.
